Unifying Multi-EHR Patient Records for a Regional Healthcare Network

A regional health network operating six hospitals and twenty specialty clinics needed to unify patient charts across three different EHR platforms following a series of acquisitions.
Unifying Multi-EHR Patient Records for a Regional Healthcare Network

Challenge

Clinicians frequently lacked immediate access to complete medical histories when patients transferred between facilities using different EHR software. Medical staff resorted to faxing records or re-entering patient demographics manually, creating data discrepancies, delaying care delivery, and increasing administrative costs across departments.

Solution

FlipWorks engineered a centralized FHIR-based clinical data integration layer. We built secure RESTful API adapters that connect to legacy databases, transform raw patient records into standardized FHIR resources, and aggregate chart data into a read-only clinical viewer accessible by authorized providers.

Result

  • Automated patient record aggregation across three distinct EHR platforms into a single clinical view.
  • Eliminated manual fax requests and data re-entry between network facilities for transferred records.
  • Provided emergency department physicians with instant access to allergies and active medication histories upon patient check-in.
